About This Project: South Gippsland Hwy
Contract Sum: $12.5 million
Client: VicRoads
Consultants: John Sudeikis
Description:
Pro-Civil Construction had been assigned to work on a 10km stretch of the South Gippsland Hwy due to excessive cracks and potholes appearing as a result of ground shifting underneath the road surface from poor ground compacting during the original build.

We began the process through tearing up the existing asphalt in order to excavate the soft soil and replace it with a series of sub-base layers. 23/02/15 – 16/03/15

The initial layer was comprised of a mixture of sand and fine gravel in order to prevent the growth of any plants underneath the asphalt once completed. 16/03/15 – 30/03/15

The second layer comprised of gravel and broken rock of which was then proof rolled in order to improve the density to prevent shifting in the future. 30/03/15 – 13/04/15

The third layer comprised of cement-based material was then laid ensuring the highway will be more than able to cater for the unrelenting traffic flow. 13/04/15 – 27/04/15

Asphalt was used as the final layer to finish off the now reinforced 10km stretch of the South Gippsland Hwy ensuring improved drivability and the safety of those who use it. 27/04/15 – 11/05/15

In order to finalise the South Gippsland Hwy road surface marking were restored, therefore making the highway once again suitable for driving. 11/05/15 – 18/05/15
